This retrofit is designed to add smartphone control to your existing opener. It works with most major garage door opener brands. Newer versions have only improved on the design, offering Siri voice control, along with partner app compatibility. New Openers
If your old opener malfunctions, replacing it often makes the most sense. Newer models offer increased safety and security. Look for an opener with Wi-Fi built-in for smartphone control. These are usually available with either a belt- or chain-drive. While chain-drive openers are cost-effective, they are noisy, meaning that you may want to consider a belt-drive if someone sleeps above the garage.
Battery Backup
Some smart garage door openers include a battery backup. In the event of a power outage, openers with a fully charged battery will work for 24 hours or 20 full cycles (one open and one close = one cycle), whichever comes first. You must purchase a new unit as retrofits don’t currently exist. This feature is optional and not available on every garage door opener.

Getting started is relatively easy. Once the opener or retrofit has been installed – professional installation is highly recommended – its corresponding app should walk you through adding the opener to your home Wi-Fi. Instructions for its use should also be included in the app.
